FAQs

How will PubAid benefit my pub?

PubAid aims to create a positive image for the pub industry, as such it should help to maintain and maybe grow the number of people visiting pubs

How long will PubAid run for?

PubAid was officially launched on 24 March 2009 and have agreed to assess all the information every three months up to 31 December 2009.

How will the information I provide be used?

Every month, the PubAid team will put construct a comprehensive dossier of information that will include the number of pubs registered, amount raised, types of charities supported and relevant stories.

This will be sent out to all those that have the ability to convey this message to the general public on a local, regional and national level as well as those in decision making positions within government and local authorities.

Who thought up the idea of PubAid?

Keith Knowles the owner of Beds & Bars (Belushi’s & St Christophers).

Who is on the PubAid team and what do they do?

The core of PubAid committee consists of:

  • Tim Sykes: Chairman of the ALMR and Beds & Bars.
  • Des O Flanagan: Held many senior positions in the industry with S&N, now semi retired.
  • Jason Wollington: MD Captiva Marketing. Jason is responsible for the Public Relations and kindly donated the website construction.
  • Ross Piggott: Director RP Databases Ltd. Ross is responsible for executing the day to day running of PubAid.

We also have regular input from Nigel Turpin from Punch Taverns, Catherine Templeton from Scottish & Newcastle UK PLC and Keith Knowles.

How is PubAid funded and how is the money accounted for?

PubAid is funded by donations from those who are directly involved with Pubs. These include pubco’s, breweries, trade associations, suppliers and media.

For the purposes of financial accountability, PubAid has appointed two directors, Tim Sykes, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers and Jason Wollington, Managing Director of Captiva Marketing.

How much money has been donated so far and how much do you need?

As at 12 April 2009 we have received pledges for £19,750. PubAid will function on minimal costs and should act as a catalyst of change.

What will that money be spent on?

The majority of services have been provided voluntarily. These include the website design, design of email campaigns, provision of databases and writing the PR stories.

There are however fixed costs for sending out emails, the monthly reports and basic administrative and stationery costs.

How do you get the message about PubAid out to Pubs & Bars

Our aim is to maximise our message and minimise cost. We use four main methods

  1. Stories & articles in the Trade Press.
  2. Stories & articles in Inhouse Magazines
  3. Linking www.pubaid.com to associated websites.
  4. Regular email campaigns.

Why don’t you involve the consumer press and celebrities?

We have spoken to a number of well known celebrities involved with pubs , but in the initial stages of PubAid (up to 30 June) we want to get the registrations and feedback. Having solid information will allow us to give celebrities the ability to support PubAid with facts rather than words.

How many pubs would you like to register their charitable activities?

PubAid is ongoing. Our aim is to register 3,000 individual pubs & bars by 30 June 2009, 6,000 pubs by 30 September 10,000 by 31 December 2009.

How much money do you think will be raised by these pubs?

We will only be able to estimate this once the first 1,000 pubs have registered. Once we have that figure, we will be able to approximate how much could be raised by 5,000 and 10,000 pubs respectively.
